Whose Image Is This?

The religious leaders try to trap Jesus with a question about paying taxes to Rome. Jesus gives an answer that sees through their scheming to force him into giving a Yes or No answer. And his answer amazes them. Jesus raises the issue out of the everyday world of economics and politics and reminds his hearers of the bigger picture. By bringing God as Creator into the picture, Jesus teaching his hearers that how they think about God impacts every aspect of their lives. In essence Jesus is saying that it is not about who rules you, it about how you rule yourself. This message applies to us today as much as to the people of Jesus's day.
