A Challenging Imperative

The episode of Jesus's encounter with a rich young man has been a challenge for interpreters throughout the history of the Christian faith. How we understand what Jesus is teaching through this encounter and to what extent it applies to us is affected by what we are assuming or presupposing about this part of the Gospel of Mark.
