Paul argues why even though forgiveness is a gift of the grace of God, we ought not to continue in sin just so grace can abound. We have been united with Christ in his death, so our old self is dead to sin but alive to God. We need to hold ourselves unresponsive to temptation and sin and walk in newness of life. We have the choice to offer ourselves to sin for doing wrong or to God for doing right. We can only serve one master. Whoever’s rule we live under, is the side we have chosen.
