The parable that Jesus tells in this passage of the Gospel of Matthew speaks to the importance of practising forgiveness within the community of those following him. Despite the distraction of the vivid language of judgement found at the end of this story, the real issue is the clear statement Jesus makes to us . . . a statement we so often try to avoid having to apply to our own lives.
