The Narrative Lectionary we've been following since September now has us journeying through the Gospel of Matthew, and today's Gospel reading is the first 17 verses of chapter 1, which is genealogical list of names. Not the most exciting reading, but an important part of establishing Jesus's identity. On top of this, in the liturgical calendar, January 1st is always the commemoration of the Naming of Jesus.
