You could call this Part 1 of a two-part series because the story of the Exodus involves both the escape from Egypt and the receiving of the Torah/Covenant with Yahweh. We'll do "Part 2" next week, but as we consider the deliverance of Israel from slavery, we must delve into the implications of the story as it is written. And then we must think about how it can say anything to us today, and how it does so. This may well be an uncomfortable experience at first, but it is an essential one . . .
