The episode of the healing of the man born blind in John 9 does more than it appears on the surface. This parable is written to illustrate the limitations of the Pharisees' (and the disciples') theological convictions about how God does things. Jesus's actions in healing the man on the sabbath kept from the Pharisees from seeing the hand of God in it all, because they knew Jesus was a sinner. This episode challenges the reader to consider how our theology might cause us to miss something about how to understand God today...
