The Gospel of John is quite different as compared to Mark, Matthew, and Luke, and the reason for this is that John is pointing to something beyond what Jesus said and did. Introducing his Gospel with a reference to a 600-year-old Greek philosophical concept and connecting it to Christ Jesus, John's account is about the Christ who was incarnate in Jesus. This significant shift in perspective is what accounts for the differences displayed in this Gospel and sets up what our journey will be like after Christmas and up to Easter.
