Elijah takes pride of place in the history of ancient Israel and is specially honoured in Judaism even today. But why is that? He didn't write any of the prophetic books in the Hebrew Bible and his story is just over 5 chapters long. The hint is in the meaning of his name, "Yahweh is (my) God."
