There are two accounts of King Solomon's prayer of dedication of the temple in Jerusalem, one in 1 Kings and one in 2 Chronicles. Where the accounts differ addresses the perceived source of Solomon's confidence about what he has said to God in prayer and what he expects will be the result. In a similar way, the Gospel of John presents a prayer by Jesus that illustrates the source of Jesus's confidence in what he prays about . . . and we're included in it!
