Brother Jason Carroll shares the story of a prisoner of the Japanese in WWII, comparing it to the story of Joseph revealing himself to the brothers who had betrayed him decades earlier. In both stories, the wounded party comes to see the repentance of their tormenters and was able to forgave them the wrong they had done to them. Unexpectedly, it is the one who was wronged that comforts the wrong doer with his forgiveness. We too can forgive those who have wounded us, even when they do not show repentance. In representing all of humanity on the cross, Christ became the confession of all those who have offended. In the Holy Spirit, we are called and equipped for the work of forgiveness and reconciliation. Jesus has broken down the walls that divide us and created a new family, with God as Father and we as brothers and sisters.
