It's About More Than Just Unity...

The Gospel of John is unique in that it portrays the theological understanding of the Church more than six decades after Jesus rather than simply providing yet another account of Jesus's life and ministry. As a result, the things Jesus says in the Gospel of John are meant to illustrate a theological observation. And when we look at Jesus's prayer where he asks God that his followers "may be one as we are one" in this light, we find that the point is something far more profound than simple unity.
