When Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees with a question about both politics and religion, his answer went far deeper than they were expecting. How do we approach his answer to "give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's"? Furthermore, how do we even begin to speak about such things with others? Is it possible for politics and religion to ever be part of polite conversation these days?
NOTE: For the purposes of this sermon, I put in the reading from the Epistle to the Romans even though the lectionary does not call for this reading on this day...
